Serie A giants Roma have set their sights on highly-rated Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen, according to talkSPORT.
The Belgian international, who has been linked with a sensational move to Manchester United this summer, is said to rank high on Roma’s radar, and as a result they are considering a summer move.
Vertonghen has been a mainstay in the Tottenham squad since his move from Ajax in 2012, and would probably command a high fee.
However with Roma performing well in Italy and close to securing qualification to next year’s Champions League, they may well be willing to pay big in order to strengthen their back line.
The man in question has yet to add his voice to the speculation linking him with a departure from White Hart Lane, though his future may be decided by whether or not Tim Sherwood can navigate a successful path into Europe’s elite competition himself.
Tottenham currently sit in 5th place in the Premier League, and the gap between themselves and 4th placed Liverpool widened to six points following their defeat to Norwich in their last domestic outing.
