Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina will not be returning to the club in the summer.
Reports had suggested that the keeper will return to Liverpool following the expiration of his loan spell with Napoli in Italy. But with new signing Simon Mignolet proving so successful, it seems that Reina does not have an immediate future with the club.
And manager Rodgers feels that it is the player doesn't want to return, referring to the letter that was posted on Reina's website after he left England in September.
"He's already written his letter. He wrote a goodbye letter didn't he? I was surprised a loan player wrote a letter," Rodgers told reporters.
"I would suspect that he should come back but obviously Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli that he was looking to move," Rodgers added.
Reina has had a widely successful season in Italy following the loan move, and has seemingly enjoyed working with former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.
"He penned a great big letter saying he was going to work with the best manager that he'd worked with and thanked us for his time for Liverpool. So for me it probably sounded like he'd made his decision there," Rodgers continued.
