Manchester United boss David Moyes travelled to Germany last night to watch Freiburg defender Matthias Ginter, reports The Daily Mail.
As the Red Devils are without a game this weekend, the United boss watched the 20-year-old in action against Hertha Berlin.
The highly rated 20-year-old, who has just been given his first call up to the German national team, could be available for as little as £7.2 million this summer, and it remains to be seen as to whether Moyes will now step up his interest in the youngster.
However, if Manchester United are to continue their pursuit in the star, they may have to battle the likes of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund for his signature.
And, with Ginter's club in danger of relegation this season, it appears he could depart the club in the summer.
Manchester United fans will certainly be hoping the club can bring the talented youngster to the club, with Nemanja Vidic on his way out this summer.
There is also uncertainty over the long term future of Rio Ferdinand, so Ginter could add to the quality of Manchester United's back-line at the end of the season.
