Manchester United are stepping up their interest in Sporting Lisbon starlet Carlos Mane after rave reviews from club scouts in Portugal.
According to the Daily Mail, United scouts believe Mane is the best natural talent in Portugal since Cristiano Ronaldo burst onto the scene at the same club.
He eventually moved to United for £12.25m in 2003, and has gone on to become one of the world's best.
And United now believe Mane could make a similar leap from Liga Sagres to the Premier League - although it would require a bid around £20m to bring Sporting to the negotiating table.
United boss David Moyes is also thought to be interested in Mane's teammate, 21-year-old midfielder William Carvalho.
The same report claims Sporting would demand a similar fee for Carvalho, resulting in a potential £40m outlay this summer for the pair.
But United have the cash to spend at the end of the season, with the club board prepared to back Moyes in the transfer market to the tune of £200m.
Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos is also thought to be a target, although the Germany international would cost a lot more than the two Sporting starlets.
United look set for a summer rebuild, with Moyes prepared to re-shape a squad that has disappointed this season so far.
