Assistant referee stuns Thiago Alcantara with skills

Referees are just failed footballers, or so the saying goes.

Well, if that's the case, we may have just found one who slipped through the net.

With five minutes to play at the Allianz Arena and Bayern Munich 5-1 up on Schalke, the ball rolled towards the sideline and the assistant referee.

What happened next took us by surprise, and Thiago Alcantara too by the looks of it.

The Spain international pulls a facial expression best described as "surprised but impressed" as the assistant referee flicks the ball up, juggles it a couple of times and volleys it back.

Pretty neat stuff. And maybe Schalke could sign him up - the heavy defeat to Bayern Munich followed their 6-1 demolition at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League mid-week.

Having said that, we can't be too harsh on Huntelaar and co.

They may have just played the two best teams in Europe back-to-back.
