Manchester United manager David Moyes was in Germany on Saturday to make yet another check on Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos, according to the Daily Mail.
Moyes has identified Kroos as the man to rectify the Premier League champions' midfield problems.
Manchester United's current central midfielders have struggled for form and fitness this season - with the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Tom Cleverley and Michael Carrick all failing to impress Moyes.
Moyes is expected to be handed a £200million transfer war-chest in the summer - with the majority of his budget going on reshaping his midfield.
Manchester United have been linked with moves for the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, William Carvalho and Arturo Vidal in recent months, however Kroos is said to be Moyes' number one summer target.
Moyes was pictured speaking to Kroos' agent at the end of January, which added fuel to speculation linking the 24-year-old with a move to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are reportedly willing to fork out £25million on the German international - despite the fact he has just one year left on his current deal at the Allianz Arena.
