Bayern Munich’s reported contract agreement with Caner Erkin has prompted Fenerbahce into more serious action regarding a renewal for the Turkish left-back, who has also been linked with a free transfer to Liverpool.

Bayern appeared to have won the race to sign Erkin, who will be out of contract at the end of the season, but Turkiye Gazetesi claims Fenerbahce have not given up on ensuring the player remains in Istanbul beyond the terms of his current deal.

Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim has reportedly met with representatives of the Erkin to ascertain is there was any truth to the suggestions of an agreement with Bayern, while outlining his hope to retain the services of the Turkey international.

Erkin has also been mentioned as a potential target for Liverpool, while the agent of the 25-year-old confirmed in January that there was interest in his client from the Premier League.

Liverpool would appear likely to look for reinforcements at full-back during the summer transfer window given that Aly Cissokho is only on loan at Anfield. The Frenchman was recruited as back-up for Jose Enrique, and Brendan Rodgers may require more options in this position.
