Houston Rockets Dwight Howard is a veteran of the highlight worthy basketball play, but usually he is the finisher and not the creator.
Saturday night was the setting as he became the creator for one moment of pure creative genius.
It's rare that he is party to throwing the lob pass, but on this occasion it was his go to play.
In the win over Detroit Saturday, Howard received the ball before providing an inch-perfect pass to the rim for Terrence Jones to pounce.
After the game Howard joked about his point guard skills, which based on this play are not half bad.
“With my guard instincts I caught the ball and look up, like good guards do,” Howard said. “And in the corner of my eye, I saw (Jones). I said you know what, I am going to make a touch pass to the top of the rim. Bam. Two points.
“The game slows down so much when you are a point guard. It is like the matrix out there for me.”
Howard admitted he was happy with the play, which completed a 23-6 run for the Rockets during the game.
“He loved it,” Jones said. “He had a little pose going after. I was glad I could finish it off for him.”
The Rockets won the game 118-110, and the win acted as their sixth victory in eight games for Houston as they look to continue their run towards the top two in the Western Conference.
