Former American League Cy Young winner Johan Santana is in 'serious' contract discussions with the Baltimore Orioles.
Santana was one of the dominant pitchers in Major League Baseball from 2003 to 2009 with the Minnesota Twins and New York Mets, but shoulder injuries derailed his career in New York.
The multiple surgeries forced Santana to miss all of 2011 and 2013, and limited him to just 21 starts in 2012. That season he was 6-9 with a 4.85 ERA, according to baseball-reference.com.
If Santana signs with Baltimore, or any other team, he would not be expected to be ready to begin pitching a full time schedule until June, at the earliest.
