Manchester United sent scouts to Napoli to run the rule over on-loan Liverpool star Pepe Reina, according to TMW.
Reina was forced to leave Anfield on a temporary basis last summer after Brendan Rodgers opted to sign Simon Mignolet from Sunderland as a replacement.
The Liverpool manager claimed he could not justify paying Reina's £110,000-a-week wages while Mignolet was at the club.
Now the Belgian has impressed in his debut season at Liverpool, Rodgers has admitted Reina is unlikely to return to the club when his loan deal expires.
That news has led to growing reports that Manchester United are interested in signing the Spaniard should he become available in the summer.
According to the Italian media, David Moyes sent scouts to Napoli's 3-1 Europa League win over Swansea to keep an eye on Reina ahead of a potential transfer bid.
There is always the potential that Manchester United are being used to generate more interest in Reina, who is struggling to find a club who can match his wage demands.
With David de Gea set to be the number one goalkeeper at Old Trafford for many years to come, it is unlikely Moyes will waste a valuable chunk of the wage bill on a reserve.
Similarly, it is unlikely Reina will be happy sitting on the bench to a his more youthful compatriot.
Nevertheless, TuttoMercatoWeb have continued to link him with a move to Old Trafford.
