English prop forward Tom Burgess will miss the start of the NRL season after his Australian club side revealed he will be out with a foot problem.

South Sydney Rabbitohs will be disappointed to lose the big man for what could be around an eight week absence, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Burgess would have certainly been in contention for a place on the Rabbitohs interchange bench had he been fit for Thursday's NRL opener against Sydney Roosters, but Souths will have to reshuffle their pack at short notice.

The Rabbitohs big man had a good season in 2013 alongside brothers Sam, George and Luke.

The 21-year-old is the twin brother of George, and the two acted as a great double act coming off the bench towards the back-end of last season.

With brother Sam ready to leave the NRL at the end of the season, the twins need to have a big season in preparation for them having to fill the void when their older brother makes the cross code switch to rugby union.
