The reason why Pele, widely regarded as the best footballer of all time - alongside a certain Argentinian rival of his - is not higher up on this list is because there was a way to stop him.

Defenders, particularly those outside of his native Brazil, would limit his influence by kicking him off the pitch.

However, the iconic Pele still managed to score a ridiculous number of goals throughout his glittering career and win the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970.
