Man United & Spurs urged to make managerial change

Former Holland international Ronaldo de Boer believes current national coach Louis van Gaal would come with a cast-iron guarantee of success if Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur decide to change coach this summer.

De Boer worked with Van Gaal at international level and during his time with Barcelona and Ajax, revealing that he thinks United or Spurs should jump at the chance to hire a seasoned campaigner with a proven track record of success if available after the World Cup.

He told talkSPORT: “If I was on the board at Tottenham or Man United I would definitely take him. He’s one of the best coaches in the world. Everywhere he’s gone, he's had success.

“He’s influential at a club even when he’s left. He sets up really good structures, so you have a great foundation for years.

“Van Gaal is like Jose Mourinho, there’s always something going on. It’s great for the press because there’s always a lot of talk about.

“It would be exciting to have a coach like Van Gaal in the Premier league.”

United and Spurs have both been strongly linked with appointing the ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich tactician in recent weeks, as both sides struggle to meet pre-season expectations under new management.

Spurs swapped Andre Villas-Boas for Tim Sherwood in December and are still very much in the fight for Champions League thanks to his rejuvenation efforts, but that has not stopped his position being the source of constant speculation.

The Red Devils meanwhile are believed to be targeting a double Dutch managerial duo of Van Gaal and Ronald's twin brother Frank de Boer if David Moyes fails to prove he can improve their fortunes on a long-term basis.

Van Gaal will leave his post as Holland manager after this summer's World Cup, making him available to resume a stellar career as a club coach for next season.
