We’re just a day away from the first round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship and we know now what pairing to keep our eye on.If defending champion Tiger Woods can shake off a back injury he’ll line-up with Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson - meaning the world’s top three players will tee off together.
Scott can knock Tiger off top spot if he wins at DoraL and Woods finishes outside the top seven, meaning he’d become only the second Australian, after Greg Norman, to claim first place in the world rankings.
Compatriot Jason Day will be playing for the first time since his victory at the WGC-Accenture Match Play championship. At last year’s edition, Day finished down in 33rd, 17 strokes off Woods, but he says the new-look Trump PGA National will be a brand-new experience.
“Playing last year from this year; it’s like playing a new course so everyone’s coming into this week trying to get as many rounds as possible under their belt so they feel comfortable out there. I think the home stretch is going to be very key this week all the way through 15, 16, 17 is very similar to what it used to be but it’s still very tough - they’ve lengthened it and obviously 18 is a lot longer. What they’ve done on the right there is that they’ve put a few more mounds there with a lot more trees so it sort of forces you to go down the middle a lot more and not bail out to the right so very, very challenging.”
And finally away from the Cadillac, and Oscar winner and keen golfer Matthew McConaughey could be returning to his old stomping ground. The 44-year-old, who reportedly plays to a high single-digit handicap, attended the University of Texas between 1989 and 1993 where he was a renowned player and they’ve invited him back for a round when he returns home.
That’s all for today, join us tomorrow when we’ll be in Miami ahead of the first round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship. And as ever find us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram by using the hashtag GWTV.
