Red Wings' Daniel Alfredsson had his teeth knocked out last night

Detroit Red Wings' Daniel Alfredsson had a bad night on the ice last night.

As well as succumbing to a last minute goal in a 4-3 defeat against the New Jersey Devils, the Swede lost a couple of teeth after a crunching hit.

The incident occurred mid way through the second period as the player was looking to secure the puck up against the boards.

But we all know that is never an easy task, and so it proved with the opposition landing a big hit on Alfredsson - the force of which sending an errant stick towards his face.

And while the video doesn't pinpoint exactly where the teeth made their escape it looks painful either way.

The usual protocol would be for the player to make for the bench to receive treatment but the Redwings star wasn't going anywhere before locating the runaway nashers.

After skating around the ice for a few moments, it looks like Alfredsson managed to find the teeth although we aren't sure they are much use now.

Ouch!
