Mikael Forssell is backing Neil Kilkenny to bounce back from the disappointment of being sent off on his Premiership debut for Birmingham - and the Finland striker is predicting a bright future for the midfielder.

Nineteen-year-old Kilkenny was given his opportunity by Blues boss Steve Bruce in Saturday´s home clash with Liverpool and acquitted himself well before being given his marching orders by referee Steve Bennett for handling on the goalline in the 2-2 draw.

Forssell told PA Sport: "Neil is a great player. He has got that mentality. He talks to you like he knows what he is talking about and that´s good for a youngster. He had the red card and, of course, he will be disappointed, but I am sure he will come back. Those sort of things happen."
