Tennis is not something you would normally associate with Will Ferrell - but think again. The film star behind newsroom flick Anchorman has stepped out of his comfort zone to change his career from the red carpet, to the tennis court at the 10th annual Desert Smash held Tuesday at the La Quinta Resort & Spa.

However he hasn't come without backup - Novak Djokovic teamed up with the actor in a charity match against Warwinka, who has his own partner in the form of fellow American actor Kevin Spacey. The match is being played for US charity, Cancer for College.

The verbal jousting started before the game, after Ferrell spoke about the "inspiring" charity, he said to USA today:

"You know what else is inspiring? Me embarrassing Kevin Spacey on a tennis court in front of a thousand people."

"Those Academy Awards aren't going to help him one bit when I'm raining fire on him from the baseline."

Spacey responded by saying: "I have taken this assignment like the greatest method actor who ever walked the face of the boards."

"I'm ready, excited and very, very pumped to head out on the court and kill you at the net!"

Luckily that didn't happen!

Novak Djokovic played his part in the fun by sporting a red curly wig similar to Ferrell's afro and they both wore matching red and white socks and shorts.

With the crowd in full support, Spacey and Ferrell decided to show the crowd what "fine" shape they were in - by flashing their abs to the spectators!

The event ended with a match between Djokovic and Wawrinka, but Ferrell again snatched the headlines by bidding $24,000 for two Timothy Bradley vs Manny Pacquiao ringside seats at an auction put on by himself, the original tickets' face value were a mere $1,000 in comparison.

Bradley attended the event himself, and said:

"This was a good experience for me, being a hometown boy.

"All the guys, they're good, good people. They had all their families there. It was fantastic. I'm glad to be here."
