WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather has confirmed that his May 3 bout with Marcos Maidana will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The pound-for-pound king tweeted on Wednesday night: “I will be fighting at the best place on Earth on May 3rd… the MGM Grand.”
There was speculation that Mayweather’s next fight would take place at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, N.Y; however, the MGM Grand has won the right to host one of the biggest fights of 2014.
The news suits Mayweather, who has beaten some of his toughen opponents at the Las Vegas-based venue which is situated just minutes from his house.
This will be the 37-year-old’s ninth consecutive fight at the MGM Grand and his 12th appearance at the venue overall.
Over the years Mayweather has taken on and beaten the likes of Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto and, most recently, Canelo Alvarez at the hotel casino in Nevada.
And, with the odds stacked in his favour, Mayweather should add Maidana to his list in two months’ time.
