Top 7: Stupidest booing fans (1)

We like to give football fans the benefit of the doubt most of the time; it's a passionate sport and can be easy to get caught up in the emotion, whether it be despair or euphoria, but sometimes they don't half make themselves look silly.

Take the Germany fans on Wednesday night for instance, they were watching their team get overrun by an impressive looking Chile side in Stuttgart and none of Die Mannschaft were playing amazingly.

Mesut Özil was doing OK though and had provided the assist for Mario Götze's early goal, which was undeserved but managed to be enough for an unconvincing win.

Arsenal's record signing was substituted with a minute or so remaining and it sparked jeers and boos from his own fans, it was quite surprising. He has been having something of a hard time recently, but he is clearly one of the best players Germany have and booing him for going through a dip in form, something that happens to every player, is shortsighted in the extreme.

Sometimes people just don't know how good they have it. Germany are by no means the first set of fans to misguidedly boo one of their better players.

We have picked out seven we feel helped highlight the stupidity some people are subject to when an occasion gets the better of them.
