Manchester United will be forced to battle Real Madrid if they want to bring in highly-rated AC Milan star Mattia de Sciglio this summer, according to reports in France.

French source Le 10 Sport, citing the Daily Express, claims that the Spanish giants have developed a strong interest in the 21-year-old full-back, and may well move to bring him in with a view for the long-term future.

Only yesterday did stories emerge stating that United had added De Sciglio to their growing list of potential summer acquisitions. The likes of Everton’s Leighton Baines and Southampton’s Luke Shaw are also said to be high on the agenda, but the Milan man may well take priority position on Moyes’ radar if United are unsuccessful in their endeavours to find players already plying their trade in the Premier League.

With the expected departure of Patrice Evra, as well as speculation surrounding the future of Rafael, United will most certainly be looking to address the situation concerning defensive recruitments. However, whether or not United have the status or financial muscle to pip Madrid to De Sciglio remains to be seen.

It’s likely the two will end up competing come the summer so long as things remain how they are now.
