The Montreal Canadians continued their good form Wednesday night by defeating the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 in overtime for their sixth victory in eight games.
The victory comes just a day after the team acquired Thomas Vanek. Brendan Gallagher, Max Pacioretty, and Brian Gionta were all on the score sheet at the games conclusion and veteran defenceman Andrei Markov scored the game-winning goal in overtime. Rookie goaltender Dustin Tokarski got the win in just his eighth NHL appearance as well.
These are the kind of victories teams love to get. These are the ones that coaches and management look back on and say, that’s the victory that pushed us into the playoffs. This could be the case for the Montreal Canadians.
After all, the Ducks have been one of the elite teams all year long in the Western Conference. So for the Canadians to be able to steal two points from them without the aid of Carey Price on the road is quite impressive.
Overall, I believe this Western Conference road trip has been a huge success for the Canadians so far. They’ve stolen points from two of the top teams in the LA Kings and now the Ducks.
The Canadians are clearly playing at a different level. I believe this team will have no trouble making the playoffs if they continue playing this way. And if Price is able to make his return soon, there’s no doubt in my mind that the Canadians will have another Stanley Cup to fight for this year. It will be interesting to see what kind of impact Vanek will have on the team moving forward as well.
