Manchester United are set for a hectic summer at the end of the season as David Moyes will have to replace several experienced key players.
The likes of Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Javier Hernandez could all follow Nemanja Vidic out of Old Trafford in the summer, while Manchester United are expected to spend a vast amount of money on new signings.
Evra will be a big miss to Manchester United if he does decide to leave the club at the end of the season as the Frenchman has been one of the first names on his side's teamsheet since he settled into life in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have been linked with a number of left-backs over the course of the season - with Southampton's Luke Shaw and Fabio Coentrao of Real Madrid among the leading candidates to take Evra's spot in the first team.
Shaw would be the ideal player to replace Evra as he has been one of the standout full-backs in the Premier League this season and also has time on his side.
Chelsea are also said to be interested in the 18-year-old and are likely to be Shaw's first choice destination if he was to leave St Mary's - due to the fact that he supported the Blues as a kid.
However Manchester United could still land a ready-made replacement for Evra if Shaw was to seal a move to Stamford Bridge as that would mean Ashley Cole would be available on a free.
Cole has lost his place in the Chelsea team this season as Jose Mourinho has instead chosen to start Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back.
Former Arsenal star Cole is out of contract in the summer and it does not look like he is going to be handed a new deal by Mourinho.
Mourinho's unwanted goods could be Moyes' treasure as Cole has the credentials to replace Evra - even if he is just a short-term option.
Cole - at 33 - is not finished yet and still has at least another two seasons left at the top.
The Chelsea defender showed his quality last night by putting in an assured performance against Denmark - despite the fact that he had not played a competitive game since January 26.
Cole would also bring some much-needed experience to Manchester United's back-line, which will be needed if Evra and Ferdinand do decide to move onto pastures new.
I'm not saying Cole should be Moyes' first choice left-back target but the Manchester United boss should not be afraid of signing the defender on a free transfer if he cannot land Shaw.
