Sammy Watkins to line up with Calvin Johnson?

Sammy Watkins and Calvin Johnson in the same offense? It could happen.

Reports say the Detroit Lions were watching Sammy Watkins at his Clemson pro day earlier today, and the star-in-waiting put on a clinic for the NFL scouts that were present.

The Lions have a need at wide receiver, and Watkins is the best in the NFL draft. The Clemson star was put through his paces, and by all accounts, put on an absolutely monster display.

The thought of him in the same offense as Calvin Johnson - undoubtedly the best receiver in the NFL - must be moutwatering for Lions fans.

He would be an extra weapon for Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, and with Reggie Bush in the back-field, Detroit would have an explosive attack.

Watkins caught 101 passes for 1,464 yards last year at Clemson, putting him at the top of the class for wide receivers.

He's expected to go in the top 10 this May, and could even go in the top five depending on team need.

The Lions don't pick until the 10th selection, so they will have to be extremely fortunate to land Watkins - unless they trade up.

If they don't, the next best prospect is probably Texas A&M standout Mike Evans.

Watkins though, is the undoubted jewel in the crown of this class of wide-outs, and has been compared to recent star wide-outs drafted high in the first round, AJ Green and Julio Jones. Both were selected before the 10th pick.
