Manchester United and Manchester City are set to be boosted by the news that the agent of Celtic star Virgil van Dijk is expecting the player to make a move to England in the summer, reports the Daily Record.
Both Manchester sides, as well as Arsenal, have been heavily linked with a summer swoop for the 22-year-old centre-back, who made a £2.6million move to Scotland from Dutch side FC Groningen in 2013.
And it would seem they will get the chance to do battle for the starlet after his agent Agent Henk-Maarten Chin confirmed the interest.
He said: “There is certainly interest. Many English clubs are interested in him – the absolute top clubs.
“They watch him and are very keen. There have been no official approaches for Virgil yet but that will come after the season ends.
“There’s certainly far more interest in him than we could have dreamed of.
“I expect something will happen for him this summer. The intention would be for him to earn a top transfer.”
Chin also praised his client's performances in the Champions League games against Barcelona and AC Milan, despite Celtic losing 6-1 to Barca at the Nou Camp.
He said: “Celtic were outplayed by Barcelona but Virgil was the only player who was okay.
“Against AC Milan he made a great impression in his battles against Mario Balotelli and he wasn’t the only player Virgil did well against.”
The Holland under-21 international would be seen as the ideal investment for a Premier League club due to his Champions League experience, and has been praised for his performances in the Scottish Premier League.
With United set to lose captain and fellow centre-back Nemanja Vidic, Moyes could see Van Dijk as a potential long-term successor, whilst City will not want to lose a transfer target to a title rival.
