Miami Heat superstar LeBron James ditched his protective mask earlier than expected last night.

James was expected to wear a mask until the later stages of this week but decided to play against the Chicago Bulls without any protective equipment on his face.

The 29-year-old small forward said on Thursday that he would have to wear a protective mask for at least another week.

However King James decided to bin his mask before receiving clearance from Miami Heat's medical team.

Miami Heat went onto lose their match against the Chicago Bulls at the United Center, however James did not show any signs of failing to cope without a protective mask.

James scored 17 points for his side and claimed eight assists against the Bulls.

The defeat was the Miami Heat's third consecutive defeat.

Erik Spoelstra's side will be hoping to make up for their recent defeat against the Houston Rockets, the San Antonio Spurs and the Chicago Bulls when they take on the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.
