Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott faces the huge task of trying to stop Lionel Messi in the second leg of their Champions League tie against Barcelona on Wednesday, according to ESPN.
Manchester City travel to the Nou Camp and must overcome a two goal deficit if they are to progress to the quarter finals of the competition.
City defender Martin Demichelis was sent off in the first leg and with Matija Nastasić injured Lescott remains the only likely choice as centre-back alongside Vincent Kompany.
The England international hasn't been a regular in the starting 11 for City and will be thrown in the deep end when he is tasked with stopping the Argentine superstar Messi.
Despite a disappointing loss to Wigan in the FA Cup on Sunday, City boss Manuel Pellegrini is confident his side can travel to Barcelona and win.
"I don't have any doubt that we can go to Barcelona and beat them in the Nou Camp and we will try to have our revenge there," he told City's official website.
"Of course we can do it. We will go with a lot of trust to try to do it. If we are on a good day, I am absolutely sure we can do it."
Barcelona suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against Real Valladolid on Saturday and Manchester City will hope to pounce on the Catalan side's recent dip in form and confidence.
