The rivalry stretches back to when the Bulls dominated the NBA in the 1990's, and even now as the Heat sit on their perch as two-time reigning NBA champions, the intense nature of the match-up lingers on.
That was again on display last night when Chicago edged out Miami 95-88 in a heated contest that almost threatened to boil over when Jimmy Butler kicked LeBron James in the head.
Questions during and after the game highlighted the issue over whether or not Butler did indeed deliberately kick James in the head.
Video highlights on the Los Angeles Times website clearly show Butler's leg connecting slightly with LeBron's head in a scuffle on court in the first-half.
From the replays it's clear that the Bulls player didn't deliberately swipe at LeBron and it seems fans agree with that assessment.
The newspaper have taken a poll as a result of the incident and 59.34% of the 1,087 fans that voted believe the act wasn't deliberate, which leaves Butler with an unofficial NBA benefit of the doubt on the matter.
