Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has insisted that a January swap deal involving Schalke playmaker Julian Draxler was never an option, but he did tell Bild that the Gunners remain interested in signing the starlet this summer.
Draxler has been consistently linked with a switch to the Emirates over the last 12 months, although Arsenal have so far declined the opportunity to meet the 20-year-old's lofty £37.5m release clause.
Podolski was mentioned as a potential makeweight for Draxler during the last transfer window, after finding first-team opportunities restricted since returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, but the ex-Bayern Munich striker has poured scorn on those suggestions.
He told Bild: "Every top player is interesting for Arsenal , Draxler is definitely one of them. But what Arsenal will do, I can not say.
"An exchange transaction Podolski against Draxler, as has been described in some media, was never an issue. I have contact with Julian, he's a good boy. But we have not spoken about a change yet."
Podolski has another opportunity to show Bundesliga fans what they are missing this evening, with Arsenal facing Bayern at the Allianz Arena in the second leg of their last Champions League last 16 tie.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger decided not to use Podolski in the first leg at the Emirates last month, but with goals an urgent priority the German international may well get the nod at the Allianz tonight.
