Liverpool and Manchester United target Pedro Rodriguez Ledesma has started contract renewal talks with Barcelona, reports from talkSPORT suggest.
Whilst Barca have suffered a somewhat inconsistent season - they sit in third place four points behind leaders Real Madrid - Pedro has been in stunning form, scoring 13 league goals in 26 games, including two hat-tricks against Rayo Vallecano and Getafe respectively.
The latter treble inspired a five-goal fightback as Barca beat Getafe 5-2 having been 2-0 down.
Reports suggest that Liverpool and Manchester United were previously battling for his signature.
Perhaps that is why Barca are so keen to start contracts talks so early. The Spaniard, who scored the winner in Spain's recent 1-0 win over Italy, still has two years left on his contract. Some may feel his form doesn't reflect his wage packet and it seems likely that it will increase, but his £125m buyout clause is likely to stay the same.
Meanwhile, Pedro must concentrate on helping his teammates bounce back from a poor defeat away to Valladolid at the weekend as they prepare to face Manchester City in the Nou Camp in the Last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday.
They lead the tie 2-0 after a penalty from Lionel Messi (which caused Martin Demichelis to be sent off) and a late goal from Dani Alves gave the Catalan side a 2-0 cushion with two crucial away goals.
Manchester City's quadruple dream has collapsed after their 2-1 defeat at home to Wigan Athletic in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday.
