Champions League: Best XI since 2000 (13)

Centre-forward: Lionel Messi

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi needs six more goals to surpass Raul as the top goalscorer in the history of the Champions League.

The Argentina international, who is considered the greatest player of his generation and one of the best in football history, has scored a truly remarkable 66 goals in 83 matches.

That figure is made all the more breathtaking by the fact he played for Barcelona between 2005 and 2009 on the right flank, before moving infield into his favoured centre-forward position.

Many great strikers have played in the Champions League since 2000 - but none have been as good as the pearless Messi.
