Jairus Byrd is many people's pick as the top rated player in this year's free agency class.

And it looks like the New Orleans Saints have stolen a march on many as the player heads to Louisiana for talks.

As reported by ESPN expert, and free agency God, Adam Schefter sources revealed the link up early this evening.

Byrd has been linked with a host of NFL teams in recent days as talks with the Bills ground to a halt and the Saints themselves are looking to plug gaps on their roster after losing several players already.

Saints supporters have reacted angrily after the release of the likes of Malcolm Jenkins, Lance Moore, and Darren Sproles and are awaiting additions to their roster in any position.

So to be able to add Byrd to their numbers would be cause for celebration for Sean Payton and the Saints front office.

As we know though things can change quickly in football, and at present this is nothing more than a player going to assess his options and a potential new venture.

But it is interesting to note that the Saints have moved quickly to try and manufacture a deal - and Byrd is obviously open to offers.

The safety finished last season with 48 tackles and four interceptions in the blue of Buffalo.
