Manchester United have reportedly lost out on transfer target Alberto Moreno, as reports in the Spanish press claim he has declared that he will be moving to Real Madrid.
The young Spanish full-back has been on the radar of both clubs, but the Red Devils were said to be eyeing a move for him with the intentions of replacing the potentially outgoing Patrice Evra. However, according to Spanish newspaper AS, Moreno has told friends that he is going to the Bernabeu.
The twice capped Spain international apparently told team-mates behind closed doors: “I’m going to Madrid.”
Report goes on to suggest that Madrid are keen to pay up to €18million to land the 21-year-old, as they are keen to offload full-back Fabio Coentrao this summer - which may well end up working to some sort of advantage for United. Moreno’s buyout clause stands at a mooted €30million, but it’s thought Sevilla would accept half of that amount.
David Moyes is unlikely to be stirred by such gossip, but a failure to qualify for the Champions League may mean that United miss out on the chance of signing one of the brightest prospects in European football.
