Paris Saint-Germain defender Alex has decided to snub a summer switch to Manchester United in favour of a free transfer to AC Milan, according to Sky Sport Italia.
Alex is a free agent in June despite remaining a key component of PSG's fight for silverware in Ligue 1 and beyond this season, with the French giants declining the opportunity to offer the experienced Brazilian defender a new deal.
The 31-year-old is reportedly on a Man United shortlist of replacements for outgoing captain Nemanja Vidic, but media reports coming from Italy suggest the Red Devils boss David Moyes may have to extend that search further.
Sky Sport Italia believe that Milan have stolen a march on United by agreeing a short-term deal to bring the defender to the San Siro next season.
Milan are very much in a rebuilding stage under new coach Clarence Seedorf, in a position to offer Alex first-team football and a pivotal position in their plans to become a force in Serie A once again.
The former Chelsea centre-back has already started 32 games for PSG this season and remains one of Europe's most reliable, physical defenders, but a Premier League return now looks a very distant possibility.
