Oscar Pistorius vomited in court for the second time after images of Reeva Steenkamp's body were shown to the court today.

Friends and relatives of Ms Steenkamp were visibly shaken by images of Ms Steenkamp's bloodied body lying on the bathroom floor followed by a close up of her face. Mr Pistorius was physically ill in the court and the monitor closest to the dock had to be switched off.

It's the second time Mr Pistorius has been ill in the murder trial after struggling to listen to the pathologist's graphic account of Ms Steenkamp's injuries. After seeing a close up of the gunshot wound to his head today, the athlete immediately began to sob and vomit.

Prior to the graphic photos of the murder scene – Pistorius' bathroom – the court heard a testimony from Colonel van Rensburg, who had visited the murder scene of Valentine's Day last year.

He described how a tearful Pistorius failed to answer his enquiring questions of what had happened the previous night.

The court also saw images of blood-soaked prosthetic legs with the defence arguing that Mr Pistorius' legs were attached as he tried to kick down the door to reach his dying girlfriend after realising his grave mistake.

The Olympic athlete will return to the High Court in Pretoria for the 10th day of his trial tomorrow where he stands accused of the premeditated murder of Ms Steenkamp.

Mr Pistorius denies the prosecutions claims that he murdered his girlfriend after an argument. He claims he shot her after mistaking her for an intruder.

He also denies lesser firearms-related charges against him.

The case continues.
