Free agent Will Herring looks close to joining the Dallas Cowboys, with sources in Dallas reporting that he has agreed terms on a one-year contract.
The outside linebacker, who learned his craft at Auburn University, joined the Saints from the Seattle Seahawks but was let go after three seasons there.
The 30-year-old made three starts in his time with the Saints and had 35 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble.
He will likely provide strength in depth at linebacker for the Cowboys, and will be a key special teams additions having fulfilled a similar role with the Saints.
Herring's arrival could spell trouble for Danny McCray, who is an unrestricted free agent.
The former Saints man is the Cowboys' third free agency signing so far following the arrival of Jeremy Mincey and Terrell McClain.
New Orleans meanwhile recently announced the free agency signing of Jairus Byrd, formerly of the Buffalo Bills.
