Barcelona star Lionel Messi will leave the Camp Nou this summer once he accepts the €30m-a-year offer from French champions Paris Saint-Germain, according to a Spanish journalist.
Punto Pelota reporter François Gallardo, who first revealed that Messi would leave the Catalan giants this summer back in November, has provided additional information about the Argentina international’s next destination and reiterated exactly why the 26-year-old is set to complete one of the most shocking transfers of this - or any other - era.
Gallardo, speaking in rather dramatic fashion on the popular Spanish television show El Chiringuito, again stated that Messi feels betrayed by the Barcelona hierarchy and recently met with an assistant to PSG president Sheikh Nasser Al Khelaifi to discuss a lucrative move to the French capital.
Messi’s reported feeling of betrayal stems from when Barcelona rejected a contract renewal agreement with the four-time Ballon d’Or winner before Christmas. Back in November, Gallardo stated: “A month ago the relationship between advisors and the club broke down. The player feels betrayed and has decided to leave at the end of the season.
"The player has a verbal agreement other team, and in for February/March he will begin preparing his transfer.
"The decision is taken. Leo Messi will leave the club at the end of season."
Messi has endured an injury-hit campaign, but has still managed to score a magnificent 28 goals in 32 appearances for Barcelona this season. However, questions have been asked about his supposed lack of work ethic under the current coach Tata Martino.
But could Messi really leave Barcelona for PSG? It still seems hugely unlikely - but one man who seems utterly convinced the transfer will happen is Gallardo.
