Former Eastern Illionois quarterback and draft prospect, Jimmy Garoppolo has compared himself to Green Bay Packers' QB Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers won the Super Bowl with the Packers in 2010 but Garoppolo says he can see similarities.
In an interview with CSN Chicago’s SportsTalk Live, Garoppolo said:“I like to think I’m pretty close in comparison to Aaron Rodgers. He’s very athletic and gets the ball out quickly. He’s very knowledgeable of the game, controls the offense totally and that’s something I try to do."
Former Indianapolis Colts GM, Bill Polian said that he thought Garoppolo could be a first round selection but most analysts feel that the Eastern Illinois man could sit for a few rounds.
When Aaron Rodgers was drafted in 2005, he went 24th overall when a lot of pre-draft analysis had him going in the top 10.
Garoppolo's performances in both the East-West shrine game and the Senior Bowl turned heads among NFL scouts and his draft stock has risen in recent months.
At Eastern Illinois, he threw over 53 touchdowns and over 5,000 yards of passing offense in his senior year.
It remains to be seen which team, if any will take a chance on Garoppolo and if he can bring his passing prowess to the professional ranks.
