Durham and England all-rounder Ben Stokes will miss the World t20 in Bangladesh after injuring his hand when punching a locker in the Kensington Oval dressing rooms.

The 22-year-old was angry at his recent run of poor form, including a first-ball duck in Thursday's consolation victory.

Stokes said: "It was a huge error in judgement following a frustrating tour for me. I deeply regret my behaviour."

His form in the West Indies was far from pretty. In five innings stretching three ODIs and two t20s, he scored just 13 runs and took no wickets.

However, the young all-rounder was the bright spark on England's Ashes tour, making the only century of the Test series by an Englishman in Perth.

He added: "I am really disappointed to be missing out on going to a World T20 with England. I would like to wish the team all the very best in Bangladesh."

This is the third recent injury concern for England; Joe Root is out with a thumb injury and Stuart Broad's knee injury is touch and go.

Stokes' replacement, Chris Woakes, has played four twenty20 internationals, most recently the defeat to New Zealand at the Oval in June, in which he bowled just one over for nineteen runs.

However, he made his Test debut in the final Ashes test against Australia last summer, and at just 25, is held in high regard for the future.

He is the second Warwickshire player to be drafted into the t20 squad after Ian Bell replaced Root.

Woakes had a successful winter with England Lions, recently scoring 92no against Sri Lanka A as well as taking several crucial wickets.
