The Minnesota Twins have signed Minnesota native Glen Perkins to a new deal which will keep the Closer with the team for the foreseeable future.

Perkins had already signed an extension to keep him with his home team through 2015 and has now added an extra two years on top of that in a new deal.

The new deal which will now see Perkins remain with the Twins until 2017 sees him gain a substantial salary increase and carries with it a hefty $700,000 buy-out clause.

Perkins confirmed that it was he who approached the Twins over the new deal as he didn't want to play his baseball anywhere else.

The Stillwater, Minnesota native thanked the franchise, the owners and the fans via his Twitter page saying: "Thank you @Twins , Pohlad family for believing in me. Thank you Twins fans for being awesome and supportive. Good days ahead."

Perkins posted a 2.30 ERA with 36 saves in 40 chances last season leading to him being selected as an All-Star, the left hander also struck out 77 and walked 15 in 62 2/3 innings.
