Manchester United and Liverpool are set to go head-to-head in the battle to sign Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, reports The Daily Star.

The ex-Arsenal ace, who looks almost certain to leave the Nou Camp this summer, is wanted by two of England's biggest clubs.

Manchester United boss David Moyes is expected to make a number of signings in the next window, with investment in the midfield area appearing a priority.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will also want to add to their squad as Brendan Rodgers hopes to take the Reds to the next level next season.

Song, who enjoyed great success in the Premier League at Arsenal, may fancy a return to England's elite division and has been rated at £15m by the Catalans.

If he opts for Manchester United, then he would be reunited with Robin van Persie who was his teammate at the Gunners.

For now though, Manchester United and Liverpool will be focusing on their clash at Old Trafford tomorrow. The pair will go head-to-head in a crucial game for both Moyes and Rodgers.
