Robin van Persie would have been crazy to join Arsenal

Published 2 Comments

Robin van Persie released a statement insisting that he was happy at Manchester United and that he wanted to sign a new deal with the Red Devils.

This statement comes despite rumours linking him with a shock summer return to Arsenal.

But if Van Persie sticks to his word, and remains with David Moyes' side, then he would have made the correct decision.

United and Van Persie have deserved their critics this season. Manchester United – as a team – and Van Persie – as an individual – just haven't lived up to last season's great heights.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean the United and Van Persie relationship should end in tears and on a sour note. United still have a lot to offer Van Persie and Van Persie still has a lot to offer them.

It would have been ridiculous if Van Persie had turned his back on United at the end of the season.

He made his choice and he now has to live by it. Arsenal fans don't really want him back and he shouldn't want to go back. Van Persie would have looked a fool if he decided he wanted to make an Arsenal return.

The Gunners, like Van Persie, have moved on, and his future at Manchester United can still be a bright one.

It may have not taken off just yet, but Manchester United's attacking quartet of Adnan Januzaj, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and of course Van Persie can become a formidable force.

Expect David Moyes to improve in the weaker areas in the summer and then the forward stars will have the platform to excel.

There may well be no Champions League football for Van Persie and Co. next season, but that doesn't mean Manchester United will turn into the next Liverpool. United still have world class players – and they have a lot of money to spend.

Manchester United will be back next season and Moyes and his team will be out to prove their critics wrong in the next campaign.

Don't be surprised if Van Persie is back firing and United are back on top in the next campaign. A few world class additions in the problem areas and Moyes will have a team he can be proud of.

Van Persie will score a number of goals for United for a number of years yet and he is still at the right club to be celebrating trophy success in the future.
