This season's La Liga has spawned many surprises, such as Barcelona's controversy surrounding their purchase of Neymar, Malaga's downturn in fortunes and of course, Atletico Madrid's surprise title challenge.
While Atletico Madrid's challenge for the title is healthy for Spanish football, it leaves one to wonder; can they manage to continually challenge for the La Liga each season?
Since the 03/04 season, when Valencia lifted the La Liga trophy, Barcelona and Real Madrid have dominated the competition, sharing nine titles between themselves (six for Barcelona and three for Real Madrid).
However, this season, Atletico Madrid have attempted to break their dominance and have taken the La Liga by storm, with a number of exceptional performances leading them to second in the league, three points behind Real Madrid and four ahead of Barcelona with 65 points from 28 games.
This leaves some to wonder, can Atletico repeat this title challenge next season ? There is no doubt that Diego Simeone's squad has an abundance of talent in the form of Thibaut Courtois, Koke, Arda Turan and Diego Costa.
This provides Simeone with a good base to build on when the transfer window opens in the summer.
However, there are some factors that will determine if Atletico can continually repeat their title challenge. For instance, it is most likely Courtois, who has evolved into one of the world's best keepers, will return to his parent club Chelsea in the summer.
Atletico also face an uphill task of keeping their other star players, with many clubs around Europe keen to add the likes of Costa, Koke and Filipe Luis to their ranks.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid are just a few names sniffing around the continent's hottest new team's best players.
Providing they add to their squad, Atletico should be well equipped to sustain a title challenge next season, even if they lose a few players.
Questions were asked when Radamel Falcao and Sergio Aguero left for Monaco and Manchester city respectively, but Atletico still managed to rally around and get the best out of other players, such as Costa, who has relished being the main man for the team this season.
Simeone is also know for his shrewd transfer business, with David Villa being signed from Barcelona for an minimal fee. However, Atletico Madrid will still be looking to hang on to their star players in order to improve their squad for the next campaign.
