Tottenham gave away three points as Tomas Rosicky's screamer after 72 seconds was enough for Arsenal to be victorious 1-0 in the north London derby at White Hart Lane.
Losing possession when the midfielders are far up-front and the defensive line were playing too high was the only mistake Spurs committed today.
And it allowed their closest rival to break down Tim Sherwood's defence to score the only goal of the game.
Tottenham tried to respond quickly but none of Sherwood's side succeed to apply the final touch.
Although the home side were arguably dominant in the whole game, claiming 59% of possession, while Arsenal put in a good defensive display. With 17 shots and 2 on target, Tottenham clearly tried to come back from their once goal deficit.
Statistic also reflect how Arsenal played in this huge match. Wenger's side managed just seven attempts with only three in target and two corners.
Defending was the main job for Wenger's men but it was also a big midfield battle where Spurs were good enough, with lots of movement, to create at least 30 crosses.
The home side have shown great character with lots of determination to erase a disappointing week for Sherwood as his side lost their last two match against Chelsea 4-0 last weekend and their midweek game in Europe against Benfica 3-1.
Tottenham stay in the fifth of the table with 53 point and seven points behind top four, whereas, the Gunners stay in the tittle race with 62 points and four points from first place Chelsea.
Spurs will have to take at least one point next Sunday at Southampton if they want to keep their fifth place, as sixth Everton narrow the gap to two points after the Toffees scored the winner in the 92 minutes that made 2-1 against Cardiff.
