Regardless of how much you want certain players to remain around forever, football is always changing.

Those who are considered the best players around today are the legends of tomorrow, much in the same way that the young whipper snappers look to step up and become the top dogs in years to come.

The retirements of the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Paulo Maldini in recent years have issued stark reminders that there is only so much a footballer can give before he's forced to hand over the reigns to an understudy. And oh how interesting it gets when the player in questions was, or still perhaps is, the best in the world at his position.

Some people fawn over their respective 'World XIs', whilst others like to speculate on who will be the best in years to come. Here at GiveMeSport we like to do both, so we've compiled our World XI alongside a potential World XI for the future.

Let us know what you think. Would these candidates be ready-made replacements for the best players in the world?
