Tottenham Hotspur have been placed on red alert after reports in Spain hinted that Angel Di Maria could be sold by Real Madrid in the summer.

According to talkSPORT, the Argentina international is facing an uncertain future, as senior officials at the Santiago Bernabeu want to free up space for summer signing Isco to make his mark in the team.

Carlo Ancelotti sees Di Maria as an important part of his first-team plans, and has even reshuffled his pack at Real Madrid to incorporate the 26-year-old in his starting XI, in a three-man midfield alongside Xabi Alonso and Luka Modric.

The £86million signing of Gareth Bale from Tottenham placed doubts over Di Maria's future in the Spanish capital, but the winger has been utilised more as a central midfielder to ensure he still gets a satisfactory amount of playing time.

Spurs are continuing to monitor the situation closely, and are ready to make an offer to Real Madrid in the summer, as the north London club look to bring the South American star to White Hart Lane, in the hope he'll have more success than Di Maria's compatriot Erik Lamela, who has disappointed since joining from Roma in a club-record deal last summer.
