Arsenal have identified Borussia Dortmund Lukasz Piszczek as a worthy successor to Bacary Sagna if the full-back decides not to sign a new contract this summer, according to The Metro.
Uncertainty over Sagna's future has rumbled on for most of the campaign, with the French international's contract expiring at the end of the season and no sign of an agreement over fresh terms on the horizon.
With the likes of Inter Milan, Liverpool and Manchester City all circling Arsenal are preparing a contingency if they fail to persuade Sagna his long-term future lies at the Emirates, with Dortmund star Piszczek at the top of a shortlist of potential replacements.
The 28-year-old has been a consistent performer in both the Bundesliga and Champions League across the last three season, with The Metro claiming that the right-back is now a priority transfer target.
Arsene Wenger still remains hopeful of persuading Sagna to sign a new contract, but will sanction a £7m bid for the Dortmund defender if last-ditch talks fail.
Wenger is conscious of the need to replace Sagna while not hampering the progress of understudy Carl Jenkinson, viewing Piszczek as the perfect compromise on both fronts as the Gunners gear up to find quality reinforcements during the close season.
