Supporters of the New York Knicks have been waiting for this day since news of their interest in hiring Phil Jackson became public.

Legendary NBA head coach Jackson had been linked with a move to Madison Square Garden for some time - but today was the day when his move to the New York Knicks was finally confirmed.

The most successful coach in the NBA - with 11 championships to his name - took up the reins from Steve Mills today in a move that will delight fans of the Eastern Conference franchise.

The former Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls head coach will be responsible for helping to transform the New York Knicks into a Championship-winning side.

Jackson has a big job on his hands as the New York Knicks are currently just outside the Eastern Conference playoff spots and have the second highest wage bill in the NBA.

The 68-year-old said at his unveiling that he will 'jump into the job with both feet', while New York Knicks owner James Dolan said Jackson will have the final say on all basketball decisions.

You can watch Jackson's press conference - which was brought to our attention by the New York Knicks - above.
