Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown believes Frank Lampard deserves a new contract at Chelsea.

Writing in his regular column for the Daily Mail, Keown has insisted that the Blues legend should be handed a new deal at the end of the season.

Lampard's current contract with the club runs out at the end of the this campaign, however after an impressive season with Jose Mourinho's side, he could stay on at Stamford Bridge.

The midfield veteran played a key role in Chelsea's Champions League victory over Galatasaray last night.

On a night when Didier Drogba returned to the Bridge, Mourinho's side comfortably saw off the Turkish giants 2-0 to secure a 3-1 aggregate victory.

And after the Blues' victory, Keown hailed Lampard's performance, as he said: "There is something about European nights that is bringing the best out of Frank Lampard this season.

"There is an extra bit of drive to his game and Lampard was solid on Tuesday night.
The club manage his games well and if he keeps it up he is worth another contract for next season.

Lampard will be hoping for a successful end to the season with the Blues as they look to secure a Premier League and Champions League double.

The Chelsea ace will then turn his attention to this summer's World Cup as he looks set for a place in Roy Hodgson's squad.
