Castleford: Are they the real deal?

Castleford have enjoyed a fine start to the season..

After a fantastic start to the 2014 Super League season, the people of Rugby League are now asking the question; are Castleford the real deal?

After so many years of uncertainty regarding their future with stadium plans shot down and financial woes, the Fords are in the best place they have been for many a year.

It seems the defensive issues that have plagued them for so many seasons have finally been erased under new coach Daryl Powell, with the team having conceded only 81 points in the opening five games; the third best in the league behind only Saints and Leeds.

Cas have always scored points with the attacking play on show down at the Jungle, but with the loss of influential England stand-off Rangi Chase to Salford in the off-season, many predicted that the attacking play would take a huge hit.

With him in the team, the Tigers played a more off-the-cuff style with Chase playing what he sees rather than playing to a structure, but this year with the new additions there is a more evident formation to the attacking play which is providing the groundwork for the likes of Luke Dorn, Marc Sneyd and Justin 'The Beast' Carney to score points.

Many are expecting Cas to slip up sooner or later, but with five wins from five and a big game coming up on Friday against Salford, Cas now harbour new ambitions of a play off finish.

With the new stadium finally getting the go ahead and the club financially stable, the Tigers faithful are finally being rewarded for their fantastic support over the years.
