We should be thankful for such a diverse and close title race this season, as for the most part we are given one or two-horse races when it comes to the Premier League.
One particular reason for this has been the quality of defending on show, which has been of a refreshingly high level after the shambolic stuff we were served up last season. Offsetting this terrific defending has been some sensational attacking play, particularly that of Manchester City and Liverpool, which has prevented the defensive excellence from making this season's competition a turgid affair.
Balance is the key to getting what the Premier League would a 'strong product' or some other similar objectionable business vomit-speak, having a share of swashbuckling goalfests and tense tight encounters. Chelsea's win away at Manchester City and Arsenal's recent triumph over local rivals Tottenham Hotspur were both examples of high-quality matches producing great entertainment without raining goals - both finished 1-0.
As well as these great defensive team showings, a number of individuals have stood out with exceptional performances. GMS had a little think about it and narrowed it down to the eight defenders we feel have been most impressive on in individual basis up to this point in the season.
